Privacy Policy

Last updated: February 26, 2026

Introduction

Aria is a free, open-source music player built with React Native and Expo. Your privacy matters, and Aria is designed with that principle at its core. This policy explains what data Aria does and does not collect, and how third-party services integrated through plugins may handle your information.

Information We Collect

Aria does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. There are no analytics, no telemetry, no tracking pixels, and no advertising SDKs. Specifically:

  • No personal information is collected (name, email, location, etc.)
  • No usage analytics or behavioral tracking
  • No crash reporting sent to external servers
  • No advertising or ad-related identifiers
  • No cookies or fingerprinting

All app preferences (theme, equalizer settings, library data) are stored locally on your device and are never transmitted.

Third-Party Services

Aria supports music sources through a plugin architecture. When you use a third-party provider plugin, that service may collect data according to its own privacy policy. Aria itself does not share your data with these services beyond what is required to stream or search for music.

  • YouTube Music — When using the YouTube Music plugin, requests are made to YouTube/Google services. Usage is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
  • Spotify — When using the Spotify plugin, requests are made to Spotify's API. Usage is governed by Spotify's Privacy Policy.

You are not required to use any third-party plugin. Aria works fully offline with local files only.

Local Data

When you use Aria to play local music files, those files are accessed directly on your device. Aria does not upload, copy, or transmit your local files to any server. Downloaded tracks for offline playback are also stored exclusively on your device.

Open Source Transparency

Aria is MIT-licensed and its entire source code is publicly available. You can audit exactly what the app does at any time by reviewing the codebase on GitHub. The GitHub repository and its associated pages are hosted by GitHub and subject to GitHub's Privacy Statement.
